I recently purchased a running watch, which means I no longer bring my phone on my runs. It's... kind of freeing, like disconnecting the umbilical cord that drip-feeds us with promises of connection and cheap entertainment. Following the Charles river, watching the sun set, hearing the steady cadence of breath and stride, there was this sublime sense of being untethered from everything and everyone. Not the same kind of solitude as losing yourself in nature, what with the people and cars around, but still this complete anonymity. A speck in the city, unknown.
